Potential Problems You'Ll Run Into On Your Moving Day

Posted on

You may think that you have everything under control for your upcoming move, but there are many surprised that can happen when the day arrives. Be prepared for the following problems that you'll run into.

Running Out Of Moving Supplies

If you are waiting to finish your packing on the day of your move, you may run into a problem where you run out of supplies and end up scrambling. It may cause you to use irregularly shaped totes and boxes, which do not fully protect the items that are inside.

It doesn't hurt to have extra boxes on hand, especially if the moving supply company will buy back unused supplies. You also cannot go wrong with having extra packing tape, which eventually be used at some point.

Renting A Truck That's Too Small

You may have drastically underestimated how much stuff you have in your home, causing you to rent a moving truck that is too small for all your stuff. This can end up causing you to make several trips to and from your new place to move everything, which costs you time and money by putting miles on the truck and using more gas.

It may be better to spend a little bit more up front and rent a larger moving truck to handle your needs. However, be aware that the larger trucks may require diesel gas and operate with as manual transmission. If you don't know how to drive a manual transmission, ask a friend or family member to help drive the truck and make the move less stressful.

Dealing With Inclement Weather

You'll want to plan for the worst case scenario when it comes to the weather during your upcoming move. If it's the winter, be sure to have a snow shovel near the rear of the truck so that you can easily grab it to shovel walkways at your new home. It also helps to have plastic that you can lay over carpeting so that you do not track water into the home and damage the floors.

If it's raining, it will help to have several tarps that you can throw over items as you carry them between your house and the moving truck. It's the best way to make sure that your boxes and furniture do not get wet during the move.
